The third day at the Sopan Festival was lit with the classical dances and music presented by the young artists. Organized by Sahitya Kala Parishad along with Delhi Government, the 6-day long festival will continue until December 18, 2019, at Central Park, Rajiv Chowk. Sopan Festival is about the Young Musicians and Dancers who are the scholarship holders of Sahitya Kala Parishad and have pursued it to learn further in the field of Classical Dance and Music. This year around 24 artists, who got a scholarship from Sahitya Kala Parishad, are performing at this platform.



On the first day of the festival, the inaugural performance was by G. Raghavendra Prasad who presented a melodious Violin ensemble followed by a Kathak performance by Dr Garima Arya Chaturlal. Later, Ankita Kaushik presented Bharatanatyam. The evening came to an end with a Kathak ensemble by Jaya Pathak. On the second day, the audience witnessed a musical vocal by Riya Banerjee, this was followed by Pakhawaj presentation by Bhanu Sisodia. Later, Reshma Suresh presented Mohinniattam. The evening came to an end by Siddi Goel’s Kathak ensemble.



On the third day, the first performance was by Shivam Dubey’s classical vocal. He was under the able of guidance of Pt. Bholanath Mishra, an eminent vocalist of Banaras Gharana, in the field of Hindustani Classical, Semi-classical and Light Classical Vocal since 2012. Shivam Dubey sang Maru Bihaag and was accompanied by Shri Ajay Mishra on Harmonium and Shri Vaibhav Borwankar on Tabla. After this, there was a violin ensemble by Komal Nirwan. She is an Indian Violinist who performs Hindustani Classical Music and belongs to a traditional and reputed family of Delhi Gharana. She presented Raga Bihag which is originated from Bilawal Thaat in Teen Taal (16 beats). She was accompanied by Sawan Nirwan on Tabla, Sudhir Gautam and Devdas on Tanpura.



Later, Yamini Dikshit presented her Odissi performance. Her first piece was Pallavi set to Raag Hamsadhwani. A Pallavi is a Nritta or pure dance piece. The music was composed by Pandit Bhubaneshwar Mishra and Hamsadhwani Pallavi was choreographed by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Her second piece was an Oriya song ‘Path chhadi de’. Depicting the scene when Radha is picking flowers, on her way to perform her morning rituals when she is stopped in her path by the naughty Krishna. She tries a no. of tactics- pleading, scolding, cajoling- to convince Krishna not to hinder her path and let her carry on with her work. He ultimately lets her go only on the promise that she will return on the same path the next day. Artists who accompanied Yamini Dikshit on the stage were Guru Padmashree Madhavi Mudgal on the Manjira, Manikuntala Bhowmik performing vocals, Jitendra Swain on the Pakhawaj and Yar Mohammad on Sitar. Vrinda Baheti ended the evening with her Kathak ensemble. She started her performance with an invocation, Sri Nandakumar Ashtakam, 'Sundar Gopalam', by Sri Vallabhacharya, followed by traditional Kathak dance repertoire in Taal Teentaal which included Thaat, Paran Amad, Tihais, Parans, Parmelu etc. In Bhaav Paksh, she performed a Kavitt and Thumari, 'Sab Ban Than Aayi Shyaam Pyaari' written by doyen of Lucknow Gharana Late Bindadin Maharaj Ji. She culminated the performance with Nritta in Drut and Ati Drut Laya. Artists who accompanied Vrinda Baheti were Shri Akhilesh Bhatt on Tabla, Shri Nafees Ahmed on Sarangi, Shri Vinay Kumar Prasanna on Flute, Shri Zohaib Hassan performed the vocal part and Shri Harendra Bhushan on Padhant.
