World Heart Day may be an occasion to make a mentality of being always conscious of heart health.
Heart crisis is occurring in twenties and thirties in high number. So, perish the thought that heart events like heart attack occur only in forties and thereafter. Heart may be wrong even on the right side of forty meaning in lesser years.
Despite evidence to the contrary, we in India are oblivious of dangers to the heart before 40. The problem is confounded by gastric symptoms. A heart attack is often confused with these symptoms and in the wake of the dilemma, gold hour is lost.
Statistics are that in India about 50% of heart attacks happen in people aged less than of 55. About 25% of all heart attacks occur under the age of 40. People are increasingly falling prey to sudden heart attacks at younger age.
The problem is many people experiencing chest pain confuse it with gastritis or similar problems. This prevents them from seeking immediate medical help thereby delaying diagnosis.
