Observing the National Deworming Day, Dr. Sumit Gupta, Consultant Paediatrician, from Columbia Asia Hospital, Ghaziabad, visited DPSGI School to breakdown the importance of deworming for good health. Breaking down the subject and making it easy for kids, he explained how anaemia, malnourishment, impaired mental and physical development are caused by worm infections, which are transmitted to kids from soil.

Explaining the preventive measures to over 60 kids attending the session, Dr. Sumit Gupta said, “Apart from taking deworming medicines, children should keep nails short and clean, drink clean water, maintain surroundings clean, wear footwear outside the home, thoroughly cleanse fruits and vegetables, wash hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet.”

As per World Health Organization report, India is home to around 220 million children aged between 1 and 14 years who are vulnerable to worm infections, which makes spreading awareness surrounding deworming important.

WHY NATIONAL DEWORMING DAY IS OBSERVED

National Deworming Day is observed in our country to reduce the cases of worm infections among kids. Children are the future of the nation; they must be healthy and happy in all the sense. National Deworming Day is a big initiative campaign run by the government of India (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) to make people aware about worm infections, its impact on the health, prevention and curing the infection through deworming tablets. Worm infection can make children anaemic, malnourished, weak, sick, and tired with poor concentration.
